A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Tatler and Vanity Fair Commercial team, in the dynamic and busy print supplements division.  The two titles produce on average twelve print supplements annually between them. Collaborating with the other key people in the team, the Associate/Junior Managing Editor will be responsible for pulling together all the strands of the supplements content on his/her assignments, which will include but not be limited to Tatler Schools Guide, Tatler Spa Guide, Tatler Cosmetic Surgery Guide. This being a commercial department, the Associate/Junior Managing Editor will also be required to keep the relevant members of the sales team updated and involved at every stage of the supplements’ creative process. No two supplements are the same:  some will require more client-facing involvement, on others there will be a unique set-up. The job is guaranteed never to be boring!  Coupled with the likelihood that print supplements never stand still but constantly evolve, this is a chance to place yourself in a pole position to innovate and help shape Tatler’s and Vanity Fair’s future.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

For supplements generally:

  • Liaise with the Editor on each supplement.
  • Close liaison with a number of in-house team members as well as external supplement Editors.
  • Research, fact-check copy, call in images, collate information, compile fact boxes, proof-read.
  • Help organise shoots where relevant.
  • Manage casual workers (subs/picture editors) and time-sheets.
  • Oversee production schedules, flatplans and the flow of editorial ensuring the adherence to print deadlines.
  • Help to coordinate, support and direct the art and subbing teams.
  • Manage the Editorial Assistant.

Specifically for the Tatler Schools Guide:

  • Oversee the Tatler Schools Guide.
  • Be the main office contact for the Tatler Education Editor, network of researcher and schools.
  • Organise researcher visits to schools for the Guide.
  • Send out questionnaires to schools.
  • Collate information, answer all queries, allocate and write around 50 school reviews.
  • Help organise researchers’ lunch and other schools-related events with Tatler/VF’s Events Coordinator.

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Having the commitment to forward-planning and diarising/scheduling the year's work and then enforcing those deadlines.
  • Ability to be forward-facing and able to build relationships with key educators (Schools Guide), and our team of researchers and writers.
  • A positive and cheerful outlook:  you will have to deal with some demanding characters along the way!
  • Being highly organised and able to juggle.
  • Understanding the importance of accountability and the ability not to drop the ball.
  • Experience in an editorial role.
  • Possess strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Sub-editing experience is a bonus but not essential.
