To be an integral part of the Burton Menswear Management team, responsible for the creative product direction of the brand and overseeing the delivery of the range in partnership with the brand product teams. Work within the Management Team, contributing to the brand strategy and developing ways to build the brand, strengthen market position and increase profit.
Day To Day
Work as an integral part of the Burton Menswear Senior team, operates as a strategic business manager, overseeing the design team and their processes, demonstrating best practice
Own and deliver the critical path, ensuing all milestones are delivered on time
Build effective relationships and influences effectively at all levels to inspire and debate key issues in order to get the best commercial results
Demonstrate full ownership and responsibility for the output of the Design team at all times
Act as a brand ambassador who represents the brand externally with credibility, confidence and professionalism, ensuring positive outcomes for the brand in terms of profile and authority.
Ensure all seasonal design trends and direction is signed off with the Head of Buying
Lead ad hoc cross functional/brand-wide projects
Offer advice and helps find solutions to the wide range of issues encountered by the teams – acts as trouble-shooter
Maximise Design Performance
Act as the driving force behind the creative product direction of the brand
Provide strong and consistent product direction, owning the process of balancing the range to include development of seasonal key looks, fashion items and essential pieces appropriate for the Burton Menswear customer
Work closely with the Head of Buying, Creative Director & Head of Merchandising to generate and communicate key product direction and brand ‘handwriting’
Continuously critiques and develops new ideas to move the brand forward to stay ahead of the competition
Display an in-depth, customer-focused knowledge of market and trends
Contribute to the successful management of product-focused aspects of key events such Press Days
Drive PR through events in addition to Press Days
Regularly review processes within Design to continually drive improvements and ensure maximum efficiency and high performance
Manage the Design budget to deliver best value
Develop a High Performing Team
Motivate and develop the in-house design team; will have a good track record of leading and working within a high performing design and buying team
With the Management Team, define and communicate a clear vision of the future and translate this into understandable goals and targets
Provide positive leadership and support to the team
Support the brand strategy and encourage others to do so
Pre-empt the need for, and manages change, supporting teams throughout the process.
Build a strong team with a focus on succession planning
Deal with people issues promptly and appropriately
Able to drive and influence effective communication between Design and all other brand functions to ensure key messages are communicated across the business
Co-ordinate events e.g. Press days, either organising or acting as the link between the relevant teams
Build and maintain a strong, varied network of contacts and communicates with all to achieve win-win situations
Present with authority and professionalism at all times
Tailor communication appropriately, providing clarity to key contacts
Experience of designing for multi-product areas
Excellent creative flair with the ability to drive the creative vision of the brand and predict forthcoming moods, trends, themes
Creative thinker with the ability to develop the full potential from projects and to take advantage of new developments
Combine a creative, innovative approach with commercial ideas
Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision and guidance
Strong team player and people manager - able to gain trust, respect and confidence quickly and effectively
The proven ability to negotiate and drive performance of external as well as internal teams
Enthusiasm, energy and determination to achieve results
Excellent interpersonal skills – being able to quickly establish effective relationships at all levels (internal and external) with gravitas and strength
Strong and convincing presentation skills – able to get ideas across quickly and effectively and gain relevant buy-in and support
Strong facilitation skills – able to lead a team through effective idea generation to collation of output from group work
Working within budget guidelines
Strong management skills with the ability to manage a large team
