Role purpose and overview
We are looking for a talented writer to create high-quality affiliate content for The Telegraph’s many lifestyle channels. This is a junior role.
One half of the role will be writing authoritative product reviews for Telegraph Recommended, from TVs to sports gear, kitchen utensils to fitness trackers. This is a crowded marketplace, so we need someone who understands what our readers want from a range of products. Reviews must be thorough and cut through the noise when delivering analysis and expertise.
The other half of the role will be writing new affiliate content, as well as updating existing evergreen content for a broad range of Telegraph sections. This includes Education, Culture, Food & Drink, Beauty, Politics, Business, Money, Health & Fitness, Family, Gardening and Cars, to help drive subscriptions and registrations for the Telegraph.
Writing new online affiliate content for the various Telegraph channels, and updating existing evergreen content
Working with the Affiliate, Recommended and SEO teams to proactively suggest ideas for new features and ways the Telegraph can drive registrations and subscriptions via product-based content
Producing detailed, well-researched online buyers’ guides, with a focus (not exhaustive) on technology products for Telegraph Recommended
Updating existing guides with new products and prices
Building digital affiliate content whilst adhering to The Telegraph’s high publishing standards for the online audience
Essential skills required for the role
Accomplished writer. First and foremost, you need to be a wordsmith who can craft authoritative, engaging copy to house style, across a broad range of subject areas.
Ability to think critically. You’ll need to identify quickly what our readers need from different products, and then research and evaluate products from that perspective.
Confidence in building and articulating a point of view. Your reviews will guide our readers in their consumer decision-making, so we need a writer who can reflect The Telegraph’s standards of journalism by researching products to the nth degree. The insights you provide will be informed, accurate and intelligent.
Previous online writing experience, ideally in a busy national newsroom.
Additional skills useful for the role
Interest in one or more of the following sections: News, Education, Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, Family, Beauty/Fashion, Gardening, Cars and Technology.
Candidates will ideally be NCTJ-qualified.
