The Director of Coverage (DOC) will be a proactive and driven news executive with a proven track record in top level editorial management. Reporting to the London Bureau Chief and the SVP of Newsgathering in Atlanta, they will be responsible for prioritising and driving CNN International’s daily news agenda including both breaking and day to day news stories.
The Director of Coverage will be responsible for a team of journalists that uncover, chase and verify daily news lines from around the world with particular emphasis on the EMEA region. The Director is audience focused and has a clear understanding of how content reaches audiences on different platforms. They are responsible for accuracy, creativity and being an ambassador of our brand.
CNN's portfolio of news and information services is available in seven different languages across all major TV, digital and mobile platforms reaching more than 475 million households globally. CNN International is the number one international TV news channel according to all major media surveys across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, APAC and Latin America and has a US presence, which includes CNNgo. CNN Digital is a leading network for online news, mobile news and social media. What you’ll be doing:
The DOC will share editorial management duties with the Senior DOC in London across the week. For the duration of their shift, the DOC is the editorial leader, driving our coverage on all platforms to ensuring we remain accurate, competitive and comprehensive.
The DOC will oversee our field operations teams and work alongside the Head of Security ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our field teams is always front of mind. Working with the Senior DOC, they will share in the management of a team of approximately 25 employees working alongside the Head of Image and Sound and the Field Engineering departments to ensure we execute a slick, professional newsgathering operation.
Alongside our International DOC’s across the regions the Director of Coverage in London will be accountable for the management of the international newsgathering budget and responsible for ensuring we stay within our newsgathering spend.

Protects and enhances CNN newsgathering’s industry leading operation. The right candidate sees opportunity here and can work across platforms and departments and genres (e.g. television, digital, shows, affiliates, audio etc.) and guide storytelling and direct news coverage.
Extensive experience of running a daily news desk in a busy newsroom – preferably an international one.
Proven experience managing a team of producers and writers
Demonstrated excellence in breaking news situations,
Knowledge of digital publishing, broadcasting, news industry and the competitive landscape, including competitive news sites, channels, mobile, social media
Strong editorial judgment, news writing and editing skills
Skilled at adapting to a changing environment and leading others through change
Ability to translate editorial strategy into daily results
Organised and effective communicator
