At Penguin Random House Audio, the UK's leading audiobook publisher, we are dedicated to making the best audiobooks on the market. Working with exceptional acting talent - from Benedict Cumberbatch to Sian Clifford - we create award-winning audiobooks.
We've had a #1 in the Audible charts on over 50 occasions, most recently with The Handmaid's Tale narrated by Elisabeth Moss, The Secret Commonwealth narrated by Michael Sheen and Heroes narrated by Stephen Fry.
As a new Editor at Penguin Random House Audio, you'll play a key role in bringing our audio publishing to new heights through savvy commissioning, creative casting and relentlessly championing your books. Our mission is to ensure that Penguin Random House Audio is the publisher of choice for authors, performers and production talent, and you'll be central to that.
Your day-to-day work will be varied. You'll be casting actors, working with recording studios and doing detailed editorial work on texts and briefs for readers and studios. You'll negotiate deals for recordings with US publishers, and you'll be expected to have your ear to the ground for potential new acquisitions.
You'll spend time in the studio too, working closely with sound editors to brief production expectations, as well as commissioning sound effects and original music to bring our recordings to life.
You'll also be rolling up your sleeves and working closely with two of our publishing Houses, acting as a go-to person for colleagues across the business who need to draw on our audiobook expertise. This means you'll need to build strong relationships across the business, demonstrate a real creative vision, and have a great commercial understanding of the audio market.
We are looking for someone with experience either in a publishing environment or in an audio business, but you don't need to have experience of both. What's important is that you're organised and proactive, that you have a real passion for stories and ideas for the audio format, and that you're a natural for spotting the next big thing.
So if you'd like to help to shape the future of audiobooks, the fastest-growing area of publishing, please apply to us with a CV and cover letter by 17th November 2019.
