The Details
Hearst's recently created Strategy department brings Consumer Data expertise together with Research & insight, B2B marketing and Commercial Development to provide a strong strategic foundation to support the commercial efforts of the business.
The Consumer Data team provides analytics, architecture and technical support both to the wider Strategy department and to the commercial and consumer teams across the business.
The Role
This role has a strategic and project management focus, responsible for the delivery of initiatives to advance Hearst's data capabilities, increasing the value of our first party data assets through more transparent metrics, leveraging currently separate data across the business, mapping business challenges to insight-based solutions and promoting data-based methods.
Strategic
• Working with the senior team and wider strategy department to develop ongoing data strategy to support business growth and transformation
• Responsibility for ensuring data capabilities meet the needs of the business
• Providing support and expertise at key partnership meetings
• Raising the profile of Hearst externally and across the media industry
• Promotion of insight-based solutions to solve business challenges, working with stakeholders and the strategy department to identify key metrics linked to value creation
• Reviewing and promoting tools and partners internally to meet business needs
• Assessing new and existing data sources and their value to the business, commissioning data integration where valuable
• Ensuring we leverage our data & insight tools to maximum business benefit
• Guiding architecture development
Project Management
• Implementation of the consumer data strategy roadmap
Compliance
• Ownership of data integrity, quality and security
• Implementation and monitoring of data protection compliance
Managerial
• Management of Consumer Data Team focus and development
• Ownership of key supplier relationships; tech, data and resource
• Management of the consumer data budget
Example Task: Managing a project to improve data collection, liaising with suppliers and key stakeholders to ensure requirements are captured accurately, systems and software are implemented effectively and value is provided to the business as measured by KPIs
About You
Required
• Experience solving business challenges through the application of insight and growing the value of commercial propositions using 1st party data
• Proven leadership and stakeholder management capability across a variety of internal and external teams
• Good understanding of consumer business practice, concepts and terminology, including knowledge of digital and CRM
• Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills
• Good presentation and communication skills, the ability to make information available in a way that is tailored to and captivates the intended audience
Desirable
• Degree (or equivalent) in a technical or quantitative area (Computer Science, Analytics, Economics, Mathematics etc.)
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Understanding of modern data technology (SQL, Tableau, Looker, Python, R, AWS, GCP etc.)
• Media industry experience
