About the team

The Media Planning team at Essence are experts on the paid media landscape and how audiences interact with it. We architect then steward holistic media plans throughout their lifecycle, owning the creation of overall plans, cross-channel budget allocation, in flight cross-channel reporting & optimisation, and post-campaign analysis. We are our clients’ key contacts for a unified view of their campaigns, narrating the story of the whole piece from planning recommendation through to PCA.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced leader to run our 30-strong media planning team assigned to the Google business in EMEA. Primarily based in London, the team create and steward digital media plans for 40+ markets across the region. They are supported by a small team in Dusseldorf and we aim to extend our on the ground presence to other markets for 2021. Our Google clients look to this highly technical and analytical team of media experts to translate their business and marketing objectives and product/media strategy into insight-rooted, innovative plans. Working variously with performance and brand objectives, these media planners work hand in hand with our client services, strategy, analytics and activation teams to ensure seamless delivery of responses to brief and implementation of live campaigns, all underpinned by a rigorous approach to continuous measurement and learning.
The right candidate for the role will have extensive agency-side experience. You will passionately represent Essence, ensure outstanding delivery to our clients, build our profile in the market and help create and convert new opportunities for growth. With overall responsibility for the development and delivery of our media plans for the Google EMEA business, you will understand the nuances of planning to both brand and performance KPIs and be capable of advancing our best practices in these areas. You will also run thought leadership programmes and lead or oversee other media planning-related projects for Google. Crucially, you will be responsible for the development and continued motivation of your team of incredibly bright, talented and ambitious media planners.
Reporting to our Head of Media Planning for EMEA you will have the opportunity to influence the broader development of the media planning practice in EMEA, generating impact far beyond the Google account. Other key stakeholders for this role are our EMEA Client Partner on Google and the Google Global Head of Media Planning.

Some of the things we'd like you to do:

  • Own the quality of work for EMEA media planning outputs including the narrative of responses to brief, channel selection and prioritisation, cross-channel campaign optimisation and post campaign analyses
  • Ensure consistent application of best practice and quality standards by our teams in London, Dusseldorf and new markets TBC
  • Work closely with our Media Activation and Client Service leads on Google to deliver seamlessly against our campaign and client needs
  • Guide the development of our media planning tools - both proprietary and 3rd party - and ensure they are utilised for best effect within our day to day media planning
  • Have a strong point of view on how the media landscape is changing, and how this impacts how we plan across multiple markets
  • Lead, inspire, motivate and grow our team of expert planners to ensure outstanding rates of talent retention. Where necessary, recruit exceptional talent to join them
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and clients across the other Google business regions to identify and deliver opportunities for media insight that drive business results.
  • Understand the role you and your team play in delivering on our client’s central goals including revenue growth, efficiency and future-facing projects. Find proactive opportunities to enhance this
  • Be our clients’ point of escalation for all things media planning related.

A bit about yourself:

  • Significant experience of running large agency teams
  • A proven track record in defining media strategies and plans
  • Experience of working with large international clients
  • Strong knowledge of the Google platform
  • Deep digital expertise across brand and performance metrics
  • Proven success in media planning process design, implementation and enhancement, ideally with experience designing for disperate market specific requirements
  • Impactful point of view on planning and measurement tools
  • Working knowledge of and desire to be involved with media performance reporting
  • A passion to help and develop people. You make yourself readily available to answer questions and offer support, and are skilled in motivating people to succeed.
  • Impeccable client relationship skills. This role requires you to interact with senior clients and partner with them to launch category defining media campaigns
  • Effective and engaging written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Confidence to make decisions and resolve problems quickly and effectively
  • Passion for digital and data, well versed on the latest industry trends and news.
