You’ll also help to shape a new era of Guardian visual investigations.

About The Role

  • Lead your team to produce world class, meaningful data and visual journalism, prioritising stories in line with the Guardian’s editorial strategy
  • Be an ambassador for data and visuals in the newsroom, communicating regularly with peers and senior stakeholders across departments, representing your team at meetings, contributing ideas, building relationships and ensuring smooth collaborations
  • Set a clear direction for your team, inspiring them to push the boundaries of visual and data journalism with innovative results
  • Uphold and improve upon best practices within your team on areas including data visualisation, news graphics, interactive storytelling, and data-led stories, communicating these to the wider newsroom to aid understanding of the team’s core principles

About You

  • Substantial experience producing significant pieces of visual and data journalism
  • Specialist knowledge of fields such as graphics, cartography, data visualisation, data analysis, data sourcing techniques and interactive development
  • Deep familiarity with the tools commonly used in data and visual journalism, and the theory behind data visualisation and data journalism
  • Substantial experience working in a busy news environment across multiple platforms
  • Proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams
  • Track record of driving innovation
  • An experienced editor with a track record of focusing resources on the right stories at the right time for the biggest impact
  • Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
We actively encourage applications from candidates who are BAME or from other groups traditionally underrepresented in the UK media.
