Description

The Role
**This is a FTC for up to 12 months with immediate start**
As the Managing Editor UK, you will be responsible for helping the team meet its day-to-day content goals and scheduling digital i-D content, with a focus on the UK site, while liaising with the Head of Content for VFLG for a global outlook. Reporting to the Publisher, you will also be responsible for commissioning, editing and posting original content and signing-off content produced by our UK editors and freelancers. You will also be expected to take responsibility for key editorial decisions and look at analytics to lead the strategic planning of social media roll-out schedules, as well as helping to manage the commissioning budget.
Responsibilities
  • Helping the editorial team meet its content and traffic targets
  • Identifying and optimising content themes and opportunities for new editorial strands
  • Work with the Social Media Editor to use analytics and data to optimise the social media posting schedule
  • Provide additional leadership and guidance to a young editorial team, helping to plan team capacity
  • Commissioning, producing and writing daily original content for i-D
  • Ensuring a fresh and broad range of freelance writers are contributing to the site
  • Proofreading and copy-editing daily website content, and feeding back to contributors and editors if need be
  • To ensure all freelancers sign a pre-release contract and all contracts are filed
  • To understand and comply with media law and industry ethical guidelines
Other
  • To demonstrate great people skills and a meticulous eye for detail
  • To work on branded projects as and when required
  • To pitch ideas and write editorial for digital and print
  • General administrative duties as required
  • To be an ambassador for the brand at all times
Skills & Experience 
  • You'll have existing experience in an editorial capacity at a large publication/website, ideally where you've helped shape the tone of voice and content for a leading brand
  • You will have an expert knowledge of fashion and music with a passion for pushing culture forward
  • You will have demonstrable in-depth knowledge of digital journalism and exceptional strategic thinking
  • You will have previous experience of managing and mentoring staff writers and being able to give constructive feedback on ideas, stories and style
  • A quick and agile thinker, you’ll be used to working in a fast paced dynamic environment and can react quickly and appropriately
  • You’ll be able to multitask assignments and prioritise accordingly
  • You’ll have strong editing skills with an acute attention to detail
  • You have an innate understanding and instinct as to what makes a good i-D story
  • You’ll have demonstrated an ability to understand, analyse and interpret audience readership data and react to trends and demands
  • Experience working with CMS
  • An online personal presence (Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc)
  • Intermediate knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, Word, etc
