About the Role

The Marketing Manager plays a central role in growing and broadening audiences for the LSO, managing large-scale marketing and advertising campaigns for concerts at the Barbican and LSO St Luke’s, generating income through ticket sales, and overseeing the work of the Campaigns team. A key responsibility of the role is managing the production of the LSO’s printed concert programmes, as well as overseeing house style guidelines and the organisation’s editorial content strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Campaigns
  • Devise and implement creative, effective marketing campaigns to grow audiences and drive ticket sales for the LSO’s Barbican concert season, and public LSO Discovery and LSO St Luke’s events.
  • Run campaign meetings and oversee the work of the Marketing Co-ordinators on their own marketing campaigns.
  • Work with the LSO’s media agency to run effective advertising campaigns across print and digital media. Create email marketing schedules and strategies, and work with the Marketing Co-ordinators to trial new approaches.
  • Produce regular evaluations of campaign activity.
  • Liaise with Barbican Marketing over joint marketing campaigns, and the inclusion of LSO events in Barbican print, emails, and plasma rotations.
Audience Development
  • Devise and implement campaigns to grow and broaden audiences for special events and projects, including the Half Six Fix series.
  • Create strategies to grow audiences for the programme at LSO St Luke’s, and LSO Discovery events, working with the Marketing Co-ordinators.
  • Build relationships with partners in the local community and develop strategies to engage the community in the LSO’s events.
  • Act as the LSO lead for Student Pulse, a ticket-discount scheme for students in London.
Concert Programmes and Content
  • Lead on the production of concert programmes for LSO concerts at the Barbican (around 40 a year), maintaining high standards and building strong relationships with our advertising sales partner, external printers, and freelance writers, editors and proofreaders.
  • Oversee the Marketing Co-Ordinator’s in the production of printed and digital programmes for events at LSO St Luke’s.
  • Work with the Senior Digital Communications Manager and Marketing Co-Ordinator’s on the LSO’s content strategy, creating content that deepens audience engagement with the Orchestra. Maintain house style and accessible communication guidelines and ensure all communications for audience members are accurate and of the highest quality.
  • Liaise with LSO Discovery and touring partners to ensure that all print and programmes are produced to house style and proofread thoroughly.
Other
  • Manage certain departmental budgets, ensuring all expenditure is planned and recorded.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with key external partners, including Barbican Marketing and Front of House; artist agents; advertising sales, distribution agencies, media buyers and mailing houses; printers and designers.
  • Work on the LSO Guest Ticket Desk at Barbican concerts, on a rota, and attend concerts at the Barbican and LSO St Luke’s as required.
  • Actively seek to implement the LSO’s Health and Safety Policy in relation to the duties of the post, at all times, giving due regard to the health and safety of yourself and others when carrying out your duties. Personally champion the LSO’s commitment to sustainability and equal opportunities for all.

We are looking for someone with experience in:

  • Relevant experience in a marketing role.
  • Devising and implementing creative marketing campaigns, across multiple channels, that meet KPIs and achieve objectives.
  • Managing, supervising, or mentoring team members.
  • Creating content and marketing materials that engage audiences.
  • Writing and editing copy and implementing house style guidelines.
  • Some experience of managing budgets.
  • Experience in InDesign would be helpful but is not essential; training can be provided in-house.
The capabilities and characteristics we are looking for:
  • A creative, strategic thinker, with an understanding of different audiences and how to communicate effectively with them.
  • Someone organised and efficient, able to work effectively in a busy environment, manage multiple schedules and deadlines, and monitor the wider team’s work as necessary.
  • Attention to detail, strong written communication skills, and a strong grasp of spelling and grammar. Someone who can build strong relationships with a range of colleagues, both inside and outside the organisation.
  • A supportive, effective line-manager, able to train colleagues, delegate, and monitor workloads successfully.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • An interest in orchestral music, enthusiastic about the LSO’s work
