Our user experience community is growing and we’re looking for an experienced UX’er to join the product team responsible for the systems which manage our UK network of engineers.
Our aim is to help people better manage their energy usage and to support the UK’s drive to reduce carbon emissions. This means offering products which help our customers improve their homes’ energy efficiency. Our Field Force business includes thousands of smart meter installers and electrical engineers who visit homes to install hardware like smart meters and   IOT energy devices, as well as the scheduling staff who plan and manage their workloads.
As we continue to grow our business, we need to keep our cost-per-install low, which we plan to do by increasing our installs per day, better route planning, and decreasing failed installs. We’ve recently created a new team to create custom tools for our engineers and schedulers to achieve these goals, and are seeking our first UX designers to help shape what we build.
We’re building the future of our business and we’ve a lot to do. We know we need a web application for our office-based schedulers, and a mobile solution for our engineers; so you’ll lead the interaction and interface design for these systems. And you’ll pair closely with our new senior UX’er who will coordinate research, service design, and information architecture.
You’ll work in Lisbon, and collaborate with people across the UK. You’ll be co-located with your delivery team, but your stakeholders and users are UK-based; some travel will be needed. Our Lisbon office is new so you’ll help us figure out new and exciting ways of working remotely.

Your objectives
  • design and build tools so we can offer a better, more efficient service to our customers
  • establish a living design system and component library for use by multiple teams
  • demonstrate a rapid and collaborative design process which involves the whole team
  • show how lean discovery and design work well in a distributed agile delivery model
  • champion accessibility and usability across technologies, languages, and regions
You’ll define, shape, and deliver live solutions for our staff. And you’ll strive to ensure the user experience is consistent, human-centred, and delivers a best-in-industry service.
What you’ll be doing
First three months
  • immerse yourself in the energy industry and market ladscape - be curious!
  • meet our field engineers and scheduling staff to understand their biggest frustrations
  • get started straight away designing workflows and interactions across platforms
  • take a leading role in the team’s daily design and delivery work, encouraging iteration
  • get to know your new team, and connect with our wider research and design community
Within six months
  • collaborate with other new UX hires to define ways of working and design principles
  • run co-design sessions with our internal users—design with, not for
  • introduce regular product experimentation and ways to quickly get feedback on ideas
  • collaborate with other UX’ers on usability testing and service design
  • involve everyone in a culture of collaborative research, design, and testing
