The quilt industry has been in growth for some time, and after its launch seven years ago, Love Patchwork & Quilting has established itself as the market leader in the modern quilt category. Fresh and easy projects and trend-led photography are at the heart of the magazine, with 92 pages of inspirational designs, features, techniques and news for the modern quilting community.
The Production Editor is responsible for organising the editorial production of the magazine to the highest possible standard and to deadline, and ensuring the maintenance of a consistent editorial tone. The Production Editor controls the copy flow for both current and future issues to make sure that all issues run smoothly.
Your role as Production Editor will include:
Taking charge of copy flow
Controlling flow between editorial and art departments.
Creating flatplan and editorial schedule with the Editor.
Maintaining the agreed schedule.
Liaising with internal departments, eg subscriptions and circulation.
Ensuring timely delivery of content outside of the monthly production schedule, eg cover gift artwork.
Page production. Processing every page ready for publication. This includes:
Collating and chasing copy and illustrative material.
Checking raw copy and illustrative material.
Subbing the copy to maintain the editorial style and tone.
Writing headlines, introductions & captions.
Researching trends and news.
Maintaining an awareness of key themes within the modern quilt world.
Staying on top of new tools, notions and products in order to contribute to cover gift planning meetings.
Administration. The general administrative tasks will be shared by the team. Your duties include:
Answering reader queries via phone, social media accounts and main magazine email account.
Sending out reader prizes.
Sending out print copies and returning projects to contributors.
Taking charge of the magazine social media accounts.
Sourcing and writing content for the blog and newsletter.
Producing the digital edition.
Excellent command of written English, including the ability to adapt tone to magazine style.
Experience of running the magazine production process.
Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Good communication skills.
Adobe InDesign, Word, Excel and general Mac skills.
Excellent organisational abilities, with experience at editorial processes and prioritising workload.
Knowledge of the craft market, or at least a personal interest in crafts/sewing/fabric craft.
Demonstrable skills in at least one craft.
Experience of social media and creating online content, eg blog writing and newsletter production.
