The Data for Science and Health (DSH) team is looking to recruit a Project Officer to the digital equity group. The purpose of this role is to manage standalone workstreams and individual work packages within projects and to monitor progress against plan.
Technology is not neutral. Who builds it, what it does, how it’s made and how people using and affected by it are involved are central to making sure the benefits of digital technology in science and health are experienced equitably.
The Data for Science and Health (DSH) digital equity group works to improve the inclusivity and reach of data science and digital tools. They do this by understanding, engaging with and supporting communities relevant to data science that advances the strategies of Wellcome’s Health Challenges of Infectious Disease, Mental Health and Climate Change and the broad base of Discovery Research.
As a Project Officer in the DSH team you will be supporting our Digital Equity group with scoping and executing projects. You will work closely with the managers in the team to provide project support for initiatives that contribute to the aforementioned goals, and where appropriate, lead on your own projects under the supervision of senior members of the team as part of your own development. This is a varied and exciting role, which gives broad exposure across Wellcome, including setting up grants with our Research Funding team, managing relationships with our grant holders and making sure the programme runs smoothly.

You will:

  • Use best practice project management tools and techniques to support delivery of projects
  • Monitor and report on progress, issues and outcomes across projects
  • Manage the governance and controls quality of project delivery
  • Analyse and trouble shoots project challenges; identifies optimisation potential
  • Build external and internal relationships required for project delivery
  • Source and manage external resource and suppliers
  • Be the owner of the risk and control environment for your area and be accountable for the quality of you and your team’s outputs

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in a project management environment and familiar with project management processes and practice
  • Experienced in the use of project management tools and systems
  • Familiar with project management IT systems
  • Effective communicator of data and information
  • Team player with ability to form effective relationships in and outside the immediate team
  • Analytical with an eye for detail
  • Able to adapt to changing circumstances
