Eleven Writing
Role: Long-Term Editor

About Eleven
  • ‘Niche writers for niche topics’. Assigning projects by subject expertise, our UK-based writing team delivers authoritative content across a plethora of advanced topics.
  • We have been running for 2.5 years and work with some of the biggest brands in the online tech community.
  • We currently specialise in tech (B2B tech, more specifically), however we are slowly branching out into other domains, opening up opportunities for writers and editors who would like to cover topics beyond the tech realm.

Role Specifics

Editor’s responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing articles; reading content thoroughly, checking for issues (quality, guideline compliance, fact-checking), resolving quick-fix issues, highlighting and annotating anything that writers should change

  • Paying special attention to new writers

  • Answering Slack messages from writers and project managers

  • Fortnightly <10-min calls with assigned writers; discussing any notable concerns, how they're feeling at work etc.

Additional information:

  • Each editor is assigned up to 10 writers, usually spread across one or two primary projects.

  • Everything takes place in Gsuite. We have an article hub in Sheets in which articles are assigned and monitored. All articles are written in Docs.

  • We have a structure template for almost every kind of article we write, which tends to make things a little more straightforward and ensures we have a mutual understanding of the article we’re looking for.

  • Articles are commissioned in bulk. The average length per article is 1,200 words.

  • We are currently producing around 200,000 words per month. From each writer, we require a minimum commitment of 4,000 words per week, though they are free to take on as much as 15,000. This helps to keep feedback efficient, allowing you to spend more time on each writer.

  • At the moment, most of our articles are reviews. We cover a lot of web apps, online platforms, SaaS, and hosting etc. in this format. However, we also often write about hardware, emerging tech, and other topics in different formats.

  • We pay monthly at £20/hr via Upwork.

  • We prefer only to work with editors who can commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to the project. We would start on roughly 3 hours per week, building up the workload over time. There is a lot of room for progression within our team, so a 20+ hours/week contract is also on the table should you wish to commit more hours.

  • You can see examples of our work in different formats and topics on our website. These are from a range of different projects, which there may be opportunities to transition to in the future should you wish to do so.

If interested, please get back to us with:
  1. Links to a couple of examples of articles you have written that haven’t been touched by a third party.
  2. Any examples of annotated articles in which you have given feedback when editing. These are preferred but not essential.
