Description

An important contemporary art gallery in New York seeks an experienced Sales Director/Artist Liaison to join our expanding team and work with our growing international roster of artists. The gallery has locations in both New York and Los Angeles, this position will be based in the New York gallery office and exhibition space in Chelsea. The gallery seeks a candidate with significant experience in sales, with an established record of placing works with private collectors, institutions and foundations internationally. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in a contemporary art gallery and/or auction house and a strong background in developing and maintaining client relationships. The ability to work in a fast pace environment and multi-task sales engagement, artist management, and planning for exhibitions and art fairs is essential.

Responsibilities include:

• working closely with and supporting gallery founder and directors on overall strategy and gallery mission
• actively work on sales of all gallery artists’ inventory
• travel to art fairs to develop client relationships and meet new contacts
• closely following all gallery artists' activities: gallery directors should be fluent in the practice of all gallery artists with the potential to engage on any work with any collector or curator at any time
• willingness and ability to travel is necessary, based upon the needs of the gallery, both domestically and internationally. Travel may include art fair activity, institutional museum exhibition events and openings, or other activities.
• management, tracking and regular correspondence with a specific set of gallery artists, to be assigned based upon the skill set of the candidate
• follow the day to day administration of an assigned artist's activities: inventory, art fair participation, assist as needed with the organization of museum exhibitions or other institutional shows, facilitate and manage the loans for exhibitions external to the gallery
• lead/assist in the organization of an assigned artist's exhibition at the gallery, from the production of works, to the management of shipping deadlines, to the development of press releases and texts, to sales strategy and follow through
• work closely and harmoniously as a team member with gallery staff on all aspects of gallery administration to facilitate the smooth functionality of the gallery program, collaborating with all levels of employees from technical staff, to registration team, to fellow directors and gallery owner.
Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm. Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
