NBCUniversal is looking for an experienced and responsible journalist to act as a Senior Planning Editor.   The successful candidate is organised, a proactive problem-solver, detail-oriented and a team player. She or he will work with executive producers and the news desk on initiating story ideas and executing assignments, highlighting big events, and ensuring the planning coordinator is maintaining forward diaries and managing logistics.   Key Responsibilities Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning and managing large-scale set-piece events such as major summits or conferences, key anniversaries of commemorations, themed series, etc.
  • Drive international editorial coverage in the medium to long-term outlook, especially with respect to news features (which includes pitching or encouraging pitches from all editorial teams)
  • Initiate ideas around creative series including package ideas and guest
  • Communicate clearly with executive producers, assignment desks, correspondents & field producers on coverage plans
  • Collaborate with all platforms to promote editorial coverage of key events
  • Coordinate closely with Director of International News and Crew Desk Manager on related assignments
  • Work with Planning Coordinator on ensuring forward-planning diaries are in order
  • Maintain relationships with freelance staff in international regions
  • Develop contacts with key organizations and guests for long-term planning
Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience working in a planning role on the news desk of a leading national or international TV news organization
  • Strong news judgment, thorough knowledge of world affairs and current events, geopolitics, foreign policy and history
  • Capacity to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and demanding live news environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team, supporting colleagues
  • Good management skills, preferred
  • Excellent communication skills & professional conduct, especially in high-pressure & stressful situations
  • Strong attention to detail & accuracy
  • Minimum four years’ higher education – journalism qualification or equivalent preferred, not required
  • Fluency in English essential, second language preferred
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must be willing to work in London, UK
