Description

Description
Condé Nast is a global media company, home to iconic brands including Vogue, The New Yorker, GQ, Glamour, AD, Vanity Fair and Wired, among many others. The company's award-winning content reaches 84 million consumers in print, 367 million in digital and 379 million across social platforms, and generates more than 1 billion video views each month.
The company is headquartered in London and New York, and operates in 32 markets worldwide, including China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico & Latin America, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, the U.K. and the U.S., with local license partners across the globe.
Historically, our digital products have had different designs in each market world-wide. Now, we are unifying our technology platforms and bringing our design systems together. A key challenge as we do this is to retain the right level of local feel, while also creating a more cohesive, maintainable and beautiful user experience. Our goal is to create unified user experience for each of our brands and products which exemplify ux best-practices. We are building a multi-disciplined product design team to evolve these products, and you will be part of that effort working within product to sculpt memorable experiences.
This role fits a highly collaborative, hands-on senior research specialist. You will have a passion for user centered design and an intense attention to detail. You will be part of a small, but growing product design team and you’ll be involved at an exciting time of change and rapid iteration. This is a real opportunity to influence the look, feel and functionality of these heavy-weight brands and how they work for the user across multiple platforms.
You will have the chance to help define what we ship and how we ship it, ensuring design and the user has a voice at all points in the process. You'll get a rare look at digital publishing around the world. You'll be working with experienced people in product, engineering, data and design who’ve all succeeded in similar challenges. We have leadership buy-in, a clear strategy to execute on and the freedom to get on with it.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Director of Product Design, you will help shape and lead our team as we move into the next phase of product development. You must be able to passionately and convincingly share your knowledge gained through experience of being a high performing practitioner in a lead research role.
  • Hands on but senior, you will have direct line management responsibilities, and a duty to mentor, inspire and give direction to more junior team members. However you feel as comfortable receiving direction as giving it.
  • You will support product teams at each level of the product development cycle from the more strategic to the more tactical one. You are willing to shape the strategy of the product team by planning and conducting exploratory research when the users problems to solve aren’t defined yet. When those problems are known, you are able to help the teams to define the hypothesis in order to identify which issues to tackle first and align them to team objectives. Sometimes you’ll need to be taking care of the more tactical research to validate and test solutions that you or other members of the teams you support have designed.
  • Our product teams are focused on improving the experience of our products and you will collaborate with them in order to deliver and guarantee an outstanding user-centric experience. You will be embedded in our cross-functional teams and work with them, supporting and leading the objective level research activities.
  • You will mentor and coach, UX and UI designers, and potentially other team roles such as BA’s, in research practices, involving them, where appropriate, in wider user research activities.
  • Provide deep, extensive analysis and insight using quantitative and qualitative analysis tools to analyse and understand visitor traffic sources, user behaviour, flow and conversion drivers as well as inform teams on how to improve the multichannel experience through heatmaps, session recordings and voice of customer.
  • Combine data sources into custom reports and dashboards, diagnosing problems to provide actionable insights.
  • Standardise methodologies to bring efficiency, uniformity and timeliness to required insights.
  • Numerical and analytical skills, capable of using multiple data sources to analyse complex problems, identify cause and effect and deliver insightful and practical research feedback.
  • Evangelise about the needs of the user and the discipline of UX research within the team and to the wider business. Giving talks and informal sessions as a subject matter expert, and leading workshops within cross-functional teams.
  • Leading the product team on understanding customer & commercial needs, performing competitive analysis, commissioning research, conducting user testing and developing insights to aid the overall experience. You’re as happy doing guerilla testing in a cafe as producing and analysing quantitative research.
  • You will deliver solutions that balance business goals, revenue targets and user needs to provide engaging experiences that make our content resonate in a crowded market.
  • Work closely with other members of the product team (especially product managers, data scientists and engineers) to create engaging user journeys, building prototypes and designing tests and research to validate customer needs, requirements and behaviours.
  • Understanding of dual-track product iterations, discovery and delivery. You will be a key part of the evolving product development process.
  • Apply a wide spectrum of UX research methodologies to generate actionable insights for product teams.
  • Work with stakeholders across the business to understand their questions and devise appropriate methods to answer them.
