Co-founded by Erica Agogliati and Francesca Avian, Flatwig Studio is a London/Milan-based studio that operates across a wide range of disciplines. They met in 2011 at Politecnico di Milano, where they both studied the theory and practice of interior design. They draw their inspiration from everyday experience, nature and tradition. They are interested in investigating the relationships between art and design, craftsmanship and industrial processes, with a great attention to materials, their aesthetics and sustainability. To do so, they experiment designing self-produced objects and artifacts that reflect their idea of the project in terms of process and aesthetics. Both interested in investigating the relation between human presence and space, people and their domestic environment, they believe in the ethic and aesthetic mission of design. They work in the area of interior, exhibition design and graphics, including research, that is central to their practice. Erica and Francesca, for their different skills and personal attitude, usually define themselves as complementary. Their typical working day is spaced out by home-cooked lunches that interpret in a critical and contemporary way the traditional dishes of their grannies.
