Square Roots

An urban farming and entrepreneurship platform

New York, United States

Square Roots is an urban farming company. We grow and sell tasty, nutritious food, all year round, from our Brooklyn campus of indoor, controlled-climate, modular farms. Our mission is to bring local, real food to people in cities, by empowering next-gen leaders in urban farming—because the more of us working to shape the future of food, the better. Central to the Square Roots mission is our “Next-Gen Farmer Training Program”—a year-long program that puts participants at the forefront of the indoor urban farming industry. After an initial period of hands-on training, the Next-Gen Farmers grow food for Square Roots customers all across NYC. Our “farmer-first” platform surrounds the farmers with intuitive tools and technology, so they can quickly learn to grow food that is better for people, planet and profits.Throughout their year, the farmers also take part in structured programming to learn more about plant science, food entrepreneurship and engaging local communities—preparing them for successful subsequent careers in urban agriculture. Square Roots was founded in 2016 by Tobias Peggs and Kimbal Musk.
