About

The Africa Centre is a London-based charity with a mission to connect to, advocate for, and educate about Africa and its global diaspora. It creates and promotes authentic African cultural experiences and positive conversations about the continent through spaces and platforms that encourage creative expression, social interaction, cultural exchange, learning and entrepreneurship, and innovation. Since our inception in 1961, part of our remit has been to bring Africa’s cultural diversity to the fore and to promote greater awareness about political and socio-economic developments affecting the continent and its Diaspora. Over the years, leading African artists, writers, academics, politicians, and musicians have met in the Centre, been a source of inspiration to one another, and shared their visions of Africa with varied audiences, helping to nurture cross-cultural understanding and dialogue in the U.K and abroad. The charity collaborates with aligned individuals, communities, and organisations to serve its diverse communities and it has a long and rich history of championing the cause for Africa and its global diaspora. The Africa Centre’s new flagship building in Southwark opened to the public on 20 June 2022.
