About

Wavemaker Stoke is about ‘making, making work’. Wavemaker is the delivery and implementation of a three year programme for Comic Relief via Robbie Williams’ Give it Sum and Nominet Trust about opening an iconic maker space for designer makers, learners and experts in North Staffordshire, the creative county. Our bigger aim is to create an iconic space where designer makers can inspire makers of tomorrow. Utilising industry leading technology to bring together and support learners, makers and experts. Using innovative learning concepts within a community designed space, we will shape the future for making. Even though the funding is for three years we are already looking at a ten year business plan and further funding including large capital bids. We plan to address a range of problems, in Stoke on Trent and further afield. Which include: • the gap in digital skills with young people, specifically the skills for the future. • lack of opportunities for young people and others to access digital spaces/opportunities and ones that are of quality. • lack of opportunity to share skills and knowledge between professionals and budding learners/makers We want to have a space where learners mix with makers and experts. Ask questions, problem solve, deconstruct and rebuild and to provide opportunities to develop their skills.
