Brief: "Over the Christmas holidays your task is to gather data on what you get up to (this can be the number of steps you walk, the things you eat, etc). Using the data gathered, create a book that tells the story of your data."
My Christmas break was spent in Singapore with my friends and family. I started collecting data like places I went to; interesting things I saw; the time I slept and also tickets/barcodes of anything I bought or events I went to.
With all these data, I collated it into an excel sheet and categorised it into 3 main sections:
Jetlag - Upon arrival in Singapore, I suffered from Jetleg for almost a week, this whole section documented how my days went by doing things I missed when I was in London.
Celebrate - This section documents the Christmas and New Year celebration I had, it consist of mostly feasting and playing.
Refresh - My last week in Singapore as well as the first week of 2016, it's as if starting off a new chapter in life feeling all revitalised.
As a documentation of my whole Christmas break, I decided to make it like a visual diary, quite raw and personal. My book title "8°C - 34°C - 4°C" represented the temperature of both London and Singapore when I entered and left the countries; and based on the temperature it inspired me of this cooling and warm colours used in the book.
In the book, you can find 3 different sets of data which repeats everyday - a map to represent the places I went to that day, illustrations as an interpretation of the interesting objects I saw and tickets and packaging I interacted with. During the break, I experimented with Brush Calligraphy, thus I decided to apply what I've learnt on the section titles.
