'A Sense of Duality' by Chrissa Amuah for Bernhardt Designs

  • Chrissa Amuah

The quick trip to New York earlier this year was to make the final edit to my debut international collection with Bernhardt Design. We were due to launch today at ICFF, in NYC. The collection, titled ‘A Sense of Duality,’ comes in six designs, in 70 colour ways. The collection has been planned, crafted and made in collaboration with one of the world’s leaders and innovators in furniture and textile design and production. The story of this collection starts with the relevance of symbolism, texture, colour and pattern. Through my Ghanaian heritage, I believe that Ghanaian symbology offers the chance to establish a design blueprint that is contemporary and beautiful, but also has meaning - meanings that consciously and subconsciously send empowering messages. To have worked with the team over the past nine months has been one of the greatest joys. They define what it is to collaborate, inspire and empower. For now, we figure out the logistics for a soft launch and next year, when all the stars align, we’ll reveal the collection at ICFF 2021. A culmination of dreams bigger than I dared dream for myself and seven years HARD WORK.
