Adidas concept I created on the Mastered with Nick Knight course (this was a brief on the course, not actually created for Adidas) The kanji says 'be free'

The concept behind this image is the feeling of freedom which we can get from a comfy pair of shoes. I had been living in Tokyo for a few months when I created it and I was missing green spaces and the feeling of peace and freedom we feel in natural environments. I found that I could get the same feeling from running so I used an image of an urban Harajuku street as the penciled out background, then made a circle out of clouds for the model to run on, to give the idea that comfy shoes are like running on clouds + the feeling of freedom that comes from comfort/running.
I didn't know anyone in the creative industry in Japan when I moved there so I was really grateful to wrangle a lovely team together using facebook to search for talent. None of us spoke the same language which was crack up. I set up a sheet in my bedroom and shot with an external flash gun.
