#AfricanUnicorns2030

A campaign created to spark a movement within the investment professional community.
Context - There are more fundable startups being created in Africa now, than ever before. Plus, there are incredible programs, Google’s Launchpad Accelerator, that are ensuring the maintenance of a healthy pipeline of fundable startups in the future.
Problem - the majority of startups max out their local investment market within a few years and have very little recourse for further funding beyond grants and competitions that could help them achieve their unicorn status potential. That’s why we’re starting the #AfricanUnicorns2030 campaign.
We believe that bridging the investment gap through a concerted effort to unite the UK-Africa tech ecosystem will help secure the future of the African tech ecosystem and bring us all at least one step closer to a truly profitable future for startups in Africa.
Launch - on the 12th of October we’re hosting a launch event at Campus London for VCs, startups, thought leaders and other stakeholders in the UK-Africa tech ecosystem. We’d love you join us on the launch of our campaign #AfricanUnicorns2030, where we will be having a conversation the opportunities Goldman Sachs, Naspers and SunFunder are taking advantage of as they invest in the next African unicorns.
The future - in January 2019, we’ll begin hosting sector specific pitch drives that invite previously funded Africa tech founders to apply to pitch their startups to a room of investors, press and other key stakeholders in the UK tech ecosystem that can support their growth and scale.
Post-pitch, the investors in our network will be invited to express interest in the startups and book meetings with them while they are resident in Campus London over the week of the pitch drive. Our intention is to clear the path to international investment for startups that are showing incredible potential to scale to unicorn status.
Partners - This initiative is supported by Campus London, the Google for Entrepreneurs initiative, and Do it Now Now; a business support and advocacy organisation that works with UK and Africa based, startups NGOs and ecosystem leaders to provide more opportunities for growth and investment.
