Airborne

  • Daniel Byrne
'Airborne' transforms the traditional Victorian bell jar display into a scene that has come alive. Injecting life and a frenzied movement into what is usually a static display. The effect is one of a mass of butterflies making a chaotic attempt to escape the confines of the glass jar. Each butterfly front and reverse side has been printed photographically and bonded together to create a double sided and individually hand cut butterfly. Black wire antennae are fixed to the underside of each butterfly. They are then pierced and suspended on 1mm brass rods within a beautiful bell jar.

The overall effect is one of a mass of butterflies in flight (over 35 butterflies). Blue Morpho Butterflies and Cabbage Whites (not to scale).
