Album covers design

This is an album cover design for Jazz music. In this design, circles represent music instruments. They have different sizes and colors as instruments have their unique characteristics. The pathways, represented by white lines, symbolize a piece of music. The circles enter the pathways at different time suggests the improvisation nature of Jazz, where instruments could be played at an unrestricted speed and time.
I was inspired by an album cover design of ‘Persuasive Percussion’ in the design below. The orderly placed circles suggest the harmoneous impression of Jazz music. While the thick lines symbolize the impressions that different instruments give. I was also inspired by the album cover design of “Swingin’ Pretty and All that Jazz” in the use of colors. The idea is about how the collaborative playing of instruments could bring a piece of music to live.
To understand visual language in a different perspective, I analysed how Chemistry studies apply shapes in explaining complex concepts.
The change of states of matters is expressed by different arrangement of molecules, which are represented as circles. The change of states from solid to gas is expressed by decreasing density and increasing randomness of circles.
I developed images that express the changing density and randomness of objects in various approaches. The experimentation helps me to explore visual language in a new perspective.
