'An Unquiet Mind’

LiFT’s long-standing partnership with Battersea Arts Centre offers in-festival research time and space to emerging artists. Working with the British Council, LiFT 2018 invited West African artists Poetra Asantewa and Kwame Boafo, to develop new work in their chosen art form and to experience other shows and events across the festival. The British Council then commissioned me to work with Kwame Boafo. We were interested in how trauma and stigma can impact the mind, body and spirit. Through Kwame’s movements, we hoped to portray the quiet unravelling of the mind - all too familiar for people who struggle with mental health issues. Below is a selection of stills from the films, which are in post-production.
