A 1st Year project to design the set and costumes for the stage production of 'Animal Farm'. As the show is narrated by a young boy and seems to come from his imagination, my design was heavily influenced by children's drawings and pop-up books. Throughout the performance, the white floor would be covered in animal footprints stamped from the animal costumes' feet - towards the end, the pigs' would turn red, and then during the final fight 'blood' would be thrown, resulting in it splattering all over the drawings. There is something horrible about defacing someone else's drawing anyway, let alone a child's, and the blood across the innocence of a child's drawing is slightly disturbing.
