Acquarium / Dining Table Concept

  • Andrea Rizzotto

A dining table with a fish tank in the middle. The design was inspired by a recent trip to China when I discovered two Chinese forms of art. The Story During a recent trip to Hangzhou, China, I met a young Fine Artist who paints Shan Shui 山水 (‘mountain-water’) paintings. The ink paintings depict natural landscapes and tall mountains that gently emerge from the water. The discovery of such beautiful, detailed and gentle pieces of art inspired the second design of my furniture line, after the lounge chair, a dining table with an aquarium at its centre. Another form of art that influenced my design is the work of the Chinese artist Cong Ma. Mr Ma creates amazing hand-crafted silk embroidery screens for Hundredicraft, a platform that ‘combines modern design with traditional craftsmanship, exploring a new model to engage people by innovating Chinese traditional crafts and bringing back vitality of tradition.’ At the 100% Design trade in 2018, I met up with Foryou Design Organization’s (Hundredicrafts visual solution provider) Chief Brand Officer Ms May. I explained my interest in the brand and willingness to visit their workshop in Nanjing to learn more about their work.
