AR SECTIONS

The former Czechoslovak Embassy in Berlin, built by the Czech architects Věra and Vladimir Machonin is one of the buildings which we could call iconic ruins. These buildings, mostly built in the 1960’s – 70’s often face the problem of rejection, being misunderstood, underestimated and therefore not taken proper care of.
This project is an attempt to present this building in a different way, by involving the viewer, who is often a laic spectator of architecture. Since these iconic buildings are most often closed from public and never revealing their spatial and architectural qualities to the fullest, I tried to create a tool that would enable some insights and possibilities to explore.
This tool is an interactive application using augmented reality (AR). By moving the cube — the physical representation of the 3D model of the embassy building, the viewer can study it or it’s structural components separately, or take a look inside, by making an endless number of sections. This interaction of 3D scanning may somewhat resemble the CT or MRI — technologies helping doctors find the cause and location of problems in the human body. However, instead of a human patient here we have a building fighting for it’s life.
