Ash Walker - Aquamarine Record Sleeve
Ash Walker returned with his third album - Aquamarine - in July 2019. ‘A heavyweight astral shower of rhythm and vibes’, ‘Aquamarine’ is a projection and culmination of all he’s absorbed, a cosmic explosion of sound and colour, rhythm, shape and patterns. The arrival of an unassuming dreamer now projecting his unique flavour of expression. ‘Aquamarine’ is the take-off of this audial spaceship, a sound discovered in the grooves of thousands of records, united in one.
Drawing on the aquatic theme, Sophie was tasked with envisioning Ash’s band as underwater creatures - a challenging but fun brief. Ash appears as a dreadlocked octopus, playing the melodica - a nod to the heavy dub influences Ash draws on. Sophie also makes use of a contrasting colour palette, higlighting the lightness and fun in this record.
Aquamarine is otherworldly, and a pleasant journey that I’m sure sounds and feels different every time you hear it. Dive in, the water’s fine – great, in fact. - 7th Level Music
Walker’s gurgling production provides the water—loose and dubby and free. If it came out in 1974, it would have inspired suburban kids to check out King Tubby. - Brady Gerber, Bandcamp Daily
