Awareness Scale

  • Andrea Petrucci
Awareness scale is the project for an installation that explores the influence of information on people's experience of the world. The concept of different layers of awareness inspired by psychiatric Eric Berne's work is linked to the effect that information can have in hindering our perception of the world.

A tree is enclosed by two concentric transparent walls; under the tree there are benches. On the walls there is text that provides facts related to that particular kind of tree.

Visitors can either stay outside of the walls or try to get close to the tree through the walls to the tree that are here translated in different kind through the gaps in the walls.

Does the presence of information influence visitors and stop them from enjoying the public space?
Is information perceived as an hindrance to a direct experience of the space?
