Baba Yaga

In collaboration with Dunia, designer of Elaine's Couture the project of Baba Yaga was born as a personal tribute to the most iconic works of Eiko Ishioka, entrusted to one of the most mysterious characters of Slavic legends. We separated ourselves from traditional description of Baba Yaga and we imagined her as beautiful as a nymph and as mysterious as an odalisque, charming and dangerous at the same time. The materials itself that Dunia has chosen for this project symbolize this duality: silk and steel merge and blend repeatedly, enhancing and protecting her figure. The inspiration to the eclectic creations of Eiko Ishioka has enabled us to include in a single dress a contamination of historical corsets, Est European headresses and fantastic elements. Setting up the stage in my studio we love to create dreamlike places: for this set we get inspired by a passage of the legend itself ( "Never enter the forest of the let side of the village, for that is the forest of Baba Yaga!") so we decided to recreate its forest and rebuild his kingdom, placing it deliberately in a theatrical cavern, filled with leafy branches and rich rustling drapings.
