BBC Festival App

  • Charlotte Alston

This brief was a University brief, set by the BBC to connect festivals throughout the year and not just in the summer. Research shows that the majority of 16-34 year olds that go to festivals are concerned about which festival to go to and what will suit their all their friendship group and are worried about prices and the lack of information available at easy access before and after the festival. My app ‘Festival Connect’ would allow the user to add their friend group via Facebook or their phone’s contacts and would then scan all of your group’s iTunes and Spotify accounts in order to produce the top 3 festivals for your group. You would then choose your festival and be given the option to view the cheapest travelling arrangements, the best campsites and more information about the chosen festival. The app’s logo represents all the different connections that this app enables you to have. The logo would pulse when you first open the app as if it was moving to music. The app allows you to create a festival playlist of all your favourite artists performing and an opportunity to ‘like’ the act to receive a reminder of where they are performing at the festival and upcoming events to keep you connected after the festival. When listening to your playlist the logo will pulse to the beat of the music playing. The user will be required to press the centre of the logo to play/pause the song. There is a selection of features available to the user to use at the festival such as a group message, a map and finding your friends and acts at the festival to keep you better connected. The photo-sharing element would link to social media where the user can hashtag the festival and the app to raise awareness. There would also be an optional ‘memory reminder’, like Timehop where the app would send you reminder of the festival and updates from your favourite artists. The app is easy to navigate with a backwards arrow and a home page button positioned in the top corners for easy use and to make the user experience easy whilst being very accessible and effortless.
