BBC Package: Flying with a World War 2 Pilot

  • Al Booth

The brief was to meet a World War 2 veteran for a cup of tea and to discuss his passion for flying again, well into his 80s. When I arrived at the airfield for our chat, it was just before he was due to go out flying. How often do you get the chance to be flown by a genuine World War 2 pilot? I recorded our chat and then joined him in the plane, as he flew across two counties. We had a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea, and flew back. Flt Lt John Trotman is a fascinating man and I was able to capture just some of his story, and a lot of his warmth, in this package I recorded and produced for BBC Radio Shropshire.
