My name is Colette (she/her) and I am a portrait and fashion photographer using both digital and analogue cameras based in London. I have recently shot for Wonderland, a Condé Nast event, Calvin Klein Fragrance and my work has been published in both VOGUE Italia and NME Magazine and I have recently won an International Photography Award for my self-portrait series. The cyanotype process, a blend of art and science, serves as the foundation of this project. By overlaying found flowers on coated cyanotype fabric and exposing them to sunlight, I captured the beauty of spontaneity. The original acetate images I used to create these cyanotypes are collaged over the fabrics, introducing a layered depth and texture. This project is inspired by the memories of making cyanotypes with my dad. These moments are significant part of my past that mark my introduction to photography. My ultimate goal is to display these cyanotype pieces on large fabrics around York, where my dad used to live. The subject matter of the pieces transcends into the ethereal, with elements that suggest angelic figures, symbolising the idea of my dad passing into another realm. The use of primary colours in my work reflects my background as a fashion photographer, adding vibrancy and a contemporary edge to the nostalgic cyanotype technique.
