Belonging Exhibition @ UAL

Belonging Exhibition displays the work of students and staff from London College of Communication. The concept questions what “belonging” means to you in today’s world of increasing internationals and travel, as well as debates around nations, immigration, refugees and even the Internet. My work titled ‘When Was The Last Time You Felt Like You Belonged?’ is a compilation of thoughts and feelings on the subject, questioning what it means to belong in 2018 and aiming to set reactions in motion for our perceptions on the concept. The texts are inspired by political issues, current debates on immigration, race, ethnicity and the refugee crisis as well as more personal and philosophical pondering on our definitions and grounds for belonging. This is an experimental project which came to life as a result of conversations with psychologists, people from many different backgrounds and situations (that I chose not to label in tune with the theme of this work). These conversations were then put into little bits of notes during the course of 24 hours to eliminate over-analysing. Their humble pursuit is to question the very core of our reasoning as well as feelings towards the significance of belonging. https://www.deftin.com/home/2018/8/22/belonging-exhibition-lcc-studio http://events.arts.ac.uk/event/2018/1/8/Belonging/
