For the IFO brand and advertising design, I would like to build a fresh and brand new feeling for my target market, flying disc is a product that is existing the tranditional feeling in public mind, so I created a new style of my brand logo and advertisement in the IFO project.

Target market
The target market is teenagers. Firstly, teenagers are the age group with the highest potential in flying disc, most of the teenagers are during the study status, they are curious about new things and interest about the things they never saw before. Secondly, It is easy to catch their attention compare with others age group, they are not professionals in a unique field who do not mind to studying some specific stuff but it must be able to cause their interest. So, the direction of the design is focused on the creative idea, special visual identity, cool image of the brand and unexpected experience, fresh, which are being the main tool to get their attention and eyes catching.

Logo & Brand name
Create a logo and brand name or flying disc is not easy, it is because flying disc has a standard image and style in people’s mind, if the logo is a new image totally, it will let people really hard to understand what is the product from this brand by the logo, if the logo design is following the currently flying disc brand style, it will so hard to get the target group attention, it is really hard to get the balance between fresh and traditional. The brands of flying disc existing currently are occupied market, the feature of the brand logo shows the full disc model or image about speed, but it is the old concept of hard-sell, I would like to create a brand name and logo to representing the whole market, so it must easy for people to remember with minimalism style. I designed the brand name to be “UNKNOWN 404”, it is because flying disc is the similar shape with UFO, a lot of people mind will relate the image of flying disc (IFO) and UFO, so “UNKNOWN 404” is linked up with unidentified flying object in text, also 404 is a not found message, it is representing the word “not found” and “error”, it is linked up with my brand name idea.

For the logo, I used a special typeface aim to create the style like Alien text, also I did not add any disc graphic into the logo, which is just constituted with text, “404” designed at the upper the “UNKNOWN”, it is the shape of UFO image. The logo design is not hard to let people get the idea of the brand because which is a UFO shape, and the text is the English “UNKNOWN404”, when people looked carefully, it is able to let my target group the get interest from my logo, the shape shows a special image to let them remember the brand, also the text style and brand name is easy for them the find out what is it when they get closer.

Three pieces of advertisements

For the advertisement, I used Bus Stop Advertising, Billboard and Tube Advertising, these few advertisements are arranged in the position which are the high rate of human traffic, my target market- teenagers prefer to use public transport, it is raised the chance of exposure for my target group. The idea is mixed optical illusion style, I hope to reach the concept of sustainability design, all of my advertisement didn't use high technology and video, it aims to use the materials and element to be my advertising tools from our normal life, this three piece of advertisements' selling point is to focus on the idea and concept rather than graphic, it is because a beautiful graphic can be obtained appreciation but people will forget it shortly, on the other hand, an experience, practice or the concept developing is able to let people Impressed and remember forever. So these three advertisements are used shadow, paper roll concept and optical illusion with the object in real life to be the tools separately in branding. The brand slogan is "Flying Disc from the Galaxy".

Bus Stop Advertising
The bus stop advertising is mixed up graphic and shadow. As the graphic angle, I decided to use a famous painting “The Creation of Adam”, I find out a lot of different brands used this painting in my research, actually all of the current advertisement is the God giving some product to Adam or designed their finger touching each other, so my idea is similar to this concept but the fascinating point is using shadow. The graphic is used Adam hand and the God hand from the painting “The Creation of Adam”, also there is a sentence “Adam would like to throw the flying disc to God when the bus is coming” between hand. As the advertisement working angle, I had done a lot of research about bus stop , I discover that most of the backside of the bus stop is using glass, so I created a glass tap cover on the backside bus stop, the Left middle area of the tap is used transparent tape and the shape is my logo, and there is covered the brand logo with opaque tape.

This advertisiment will print on tape with transparent area, it can be able to let light through the transparent area to screen to logo at the bus stop
When the bus is coming, the headlight of the bus will shine the light on the back side of the bus stop, it will form shadow area inside the bus stop, and the light from the headlight of the bus can through the transparent area to screen my logo on Adam's hand. When the bus is coming closer to the bus stop, the shadow area will move from left side to be right side based on the angle of the headlight of the bus, and the brand logo will following the shadow moving to right side at the same time, it can form the situation that the shadow of brand logo(representing the flying disc) moving from Adam's hand to the God's hand. It is the idea aim to get teenagers attention, it is different with the transitional flying disc brand advertisement just selling the product, it is a part of branding, it is able to eye’s catching, actually I mock up a small size bus stop with paper and confirmed this concept is work if the angle is correct.

The light effect is able to make the logo moving, because if the bus is far away, the logo will be displayed at Adam's hand, and then the logo will moving to The God hand when the bus is close to the bus stop, that is the reason why I used "Adam would like to throw flying disc to the God when the bus is coming". It is representing the flying disc.

Billboard Advertising
The billboard Advertisement is just a very simple concept, which is just rolling up “the bottom left corner” of the billboard advertisement and cover it in the middle, the concept is sum up with the shadow of rolling up any flat, the shadow in the “C area” is same with human hand holding something. It is able to show a 2D flat to be 3D dimensional effect, the advertisement aim to shows dimensional image so the billboard have designed to be double sided, the back of the billboard is just the finger on right area, and front is just painted the thumb and part of hand under the flying disc with logo, when the bottom left corner cover in the middle of the billboard, it shows the real hand holding a flying disc. This advertising aim to created a 3D effect by 2D flat, it is able to let get attention and eye are catching from teenagers, it is because of they interesting about special visual identity and creative idea.

Tube Advertising
The tube advertisement is just a flat poster, it is because the underground billboard is fixed to follow their advertising standard as company policy(safety and non-negative effect for people in the station), so this advertisement only able to created to be flat poster, and the concept is used the element of the tube logo, there are big billboard poster and A0 size. As the graphic design, there are just tow elements inside the poster “Logo” and “flying disc player” with a black colour background. I discovered most of the tube advertisement was arranged next to the tube logo or station name, sometimes the tube logo is were being a tool for separate different advertisement,so my idea is sum up with the tube logo represent the flying disc, there are the flying disc player in these two advertisements, and his movement is going to catch the flying disc, and the tube logo is just right at the position he want to catch. The idea is linked up tube logo to be disc because the shape is similar, and the movement of the player in the poster is used the unique of tube logo position, it is able to show a real visual for teenagers to think about the situation in playing flying disc.
