Big Bear Theatre Company required a brand identity for their relaunch in 2014. The company was formerly known as Little Bear Theatre Company, but an upscaling in their ambitions, audience numbers and scale of productions prompted them in late 2013 to rebrand their company.
The company was known for its comic works such as ‘A Bold Stroke For A Husband’ and ‘Laugh Your Farce Off’, but Big Bear wanted to break new creative ground through widening their scope of staged work. The new brand identity needed to imply Big Bear was not a niche company limited to comic adaptations.
To do justice to this broader creative vision, the logo needed to be adaptable. The creative director was interested in achieving duality in the new identity. She wanted a logo that required the viewer to make a double take. The logo weaves together two images: a paw print and a capitalised letter ‘B’.
