Bookmark was designed in response to the D&AD brief set by Penguin for heightening the reading experience of 18-30 year olds. Bookmark is an interactive service housed in Apple Books. The service gives the reader the option of having a personal or connected heightened reading experience when reading a Penguin book. Bookmark also houses a 2nd Connect service within, giving the reader the option of connecting with other people who are reading the same book. Bookmark works by giving highlighted sections of the book which when clicked gives various information depending on the function chosen.

The Bookmark function has 4 options giving the reader information on the book for:
  • Authors Comments
  • Chapter Recap
  • Character Tracking
  • Historical References
Connect has 4 options allowing the reader to interact with other people reading the same book through:
  • Page Comments
  • Previous Reader’s Comments
  • Book Chat Group
  • Recommended Books
Bookmark gives a heightened reading experience as required in the D&AD brief through giving the reader a simple service which allows them to interact with their book. Bookmark is designed for fiction books and will allow the reader to have either of 2 experiences; A personal one using solely Bookmark or an interactive one using both Bookmark and Connect.
