With each production, he offers imaginative storytelling solutions that establish context, create focus, and spark the audience's imagination. His love of the Broadway musicals begins at the early age of five when his father encouraged him to perform in plays. He grew up loving the likes of Cats, Lion King, Peter Pan, and Boyhood or Chicago.
He went on to join several notable Broadway shows including Company and Circle. After leaving Circle, Christian decided to go freelance, but was unable to find work because of his lack of experience in the field. He decided to make a professional switch to designing for the new Broadway productions, and Broadway Sketch Theater was born. The company became very successful in its three seasons, and then went on to receive six Broadway playwrights writing and producing their own productions.
Today, Christian is well known as one of the most sought after set designers in the broadway industry. He has designed for numerous Broadway shows including revival classics such as Cats, and he is now involved in the design of a new revival of the Cats which will begin previews next spring. Christian first came onto the scene with the ground breaking Cats of Broadway cast recording, which launched Christian's career. He also served as a producer on the hit revival of Cats, which starred Ellen DeGeneres and Billy Crystal.
Christian has been a longtime friend and colleague of Flea from the world of fashion design. They first worked together in the early seventies when Christian was working as a designer for Flea's clothing. From there, Christian helped to launch Flea's clothing line and later helped him launch his own line of women's clothing. Flea's designs also earned Christian his first acting award for his performance of King Lear in 1984.
As an established Broadway costume designer, Christian has continued to create spectacular costumes that are the backbone of every Broadway production.
