Broke & Bitter

Fabric Paint on Satin Artwork, photography & styling by myself. Model: Simone Williams

I named this collection after the zine i designed it for, Broke & Bitter. A girl I knew who was studying at art school in London was calling for submissions. This is the kind of thing I've always wanted to get involved with, but full time working to pay the bills takes up so much of my time, it was easier to keep saying "one day".
Coming from a working class background, I think every aspiring artist can understand the frustration of having big ideas but little money, time or even experience to portray them. I had already bought the dresses and produced many designs, so I took the oppurtunity and pushed myself to get it done. The dresses were around £3 each on eBay. Perfect for the whole idea of Broke & Bitter zine!
A collection of cheap satin dresses, upcycled by myself using fabric paint and vintage rhinestone belts, I created an ironic series. I kind of wanted this collection to say "you don't need money to be fancy as fuck" and I think I achieved that.
