GRADUATE JEWELLERY COLLECTION//

Brutalist architecture was the starting point for this collection. These unusually shaped block homes were once dismissed as ugly and named ‘intimidating slabs of concrete’. The key colour palette of grey and green came from the barbican conservatory and its grey concrete uptopian landscape and contrasting green plant life and shrubbery. These pieces aim to change people’s perceptions of ‘industrial’ elements and make them more playful and fun through the application of bright colours and soft contrasting textures. By wearing a piece of jewellery you are acknowledging a period in architecture and carrying a piece of home with you at all times. Geometric forms are the base for the experimental pieces, keeping the shapes simple allows for more of the strangeness to be revealed. Powdercoated steel hooks the jesmonite, transforming an object into a wearable piece of art. Miniature elements from the world of architectural models and model railways interact with the pieces to attract attention to the playfulness. Transforming the material qualities of building resources such as rocks and bricks into soft flexible brightly coloured forms changes our perception of their use in construction.
