As part of a graphic elective, we were tasked with creating a product that would graphically convey an message. For this project I chose to create a cactus starter kit for university students as a means of engaging them when they move into halls of residences.

The cactus was used as the base as it a commonly owned plant by students as take a long time to kill due to the nature of the plant; this makes them the ideal choice for lazy student. When researching what to include in my kit I found that there were a lot of variation between kits, with some having lots of items while some have a limited selection.

The kit includes instructions on how to look after a cactus as well as instructions on how to grow a cactus as the likelihood of the student killing the cactus is really high. The kit will also have persona for the four different types of cactus as it gives them a sense of identity.

To build on the idea of connection with the user of the kit I felt the name “cactus” with empathise on the “us” was subtle and coherent way to convey this message; it lets the viewer know exactly what the product is .
