Carving Out The Time

  • Lorna Rose Cook

This project was born out of a desire to test how my figurative illustrations could be applied to editorial or advertising work. At the time, the country was in lockdown so I was somewhat limited in terms of subject matter. Luckily, my dad is a keen craftsman and thus a perfect model for this project. The illustrations are detailed and closely observed - a reflection of the time and effort my Dad dedicates to his crafts. I wanted to really highlight the joy that can be found in slowing down, stepping away from technology and the bustle of every day life to make something - whatever that may be. I am also really interested in capturing character in portraits and figurative illustrations - something which often shines through most when a person is doing something they love.
