Celebrate Crafts

  • Phoebe Wingrove

Self-negotiated Brief - To explore and celebrate crafts within society. Concept - To interview craftsmen and women, who’s lives are impacted by crafts. Solution - The interviews will be presented within a book, bound and sewn into by hand. This will engage creatives of all ages.

Value is a book that represents the importance of crafts within society - we must value crafts.

For this project I went out and interviewed a group of ladies in the age group 55+ who get together every week to share their skills such as sewing and knitting. This gives them a community and something to look forward to each week, which helps their wellbeing.

I also interviewed craftsmen and women in their workshops where they craft their products. This is their livlihood and there is still a market out there for people wanting a one of a kind product thats been made from a labour of love.

Lastly I interview the CEO at a bookbinders in London. Alison told me how important it is that we have books that will last and hold information that technology may one day lose.

By printing and creating the book myself I wanted to showcase the importance of crafts and difference it makes holding something that represents detail and shows the time taken on it.
"It's definitely a labour of love!"
