Chaos

I fell in love with the beauty of vintage butterfly/animal displays but one aspect always jarred with me in that the beauty was slightly negated by the fact they had to die in the process. The display's always had a morbid spirit to them. I wanted to see them magically come alive in the box, injecting movement and life and little 'Chaos'.
My artwork transforms the familiar uniformity of the butterfly specimen box into a scene that has come alive. Injecting life and a frenzied movement into what are usually static displays.
Multiple butterflies displayed inside an authentic taxidermy case. Each butterfly is hand cut and pinned off a black background. Black wire antennae are fixed to all butterflies. The overall effect is one of a mass of butterflies making a chaotic attempt to escape the confines of their box.
