Cherry Orchard De(con)structed

  • Ekavi Whitlock
A culinary performance commisioned by the Prague Quadrennial's Makers exhibition. Using Chekhov’s text as a starting point, and food as a storytelling medium, I attempted an innovative experiment. Through this performance we wanted to create our own version of the Cherry Orchard, aided by the active participation of the audience. We wanted to ‘weave’ a web of memories with food as their common denominator. Food in the context of this performance was used as a tool to accelerate the story, but also as a stimulus to retrieve past memories. Food is consumed, transformed into energy, life, faeces and finally all that’s left are memories.
