CHILDREN & THEIR GROWN-UPS SHOWCASE “Encountering Dance”

  • Pavillion Dance South West

Encountering Dance In parks, through windows, on screens, through podcasts …. audiences at the 2021 edition of the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival in May, encountered dance in many different ways and places. In this session, some of the dance artists involved in the festival will share the approaches they took to creating work in this context and their experiences of how young audiences encountered dance. We will be in conversation with: Project X (Ashanti Harris & Rhea Lewis) who presented Lovey & Boy – A Carnival Odysseyas an immersive video experience; Shotput (Lucy Ireland & Jim Manganello) who in researching Untitled Discotheque Project created a podcast series for young people; Suzi Cunningham who developed Buff & Sheen in collaboration with Alex McCabe as a direct response to lockdown and connecting with children and families who were isolating. Chaired by Fiona Ferguson (Director of Creative Development, Imaginate) Imaginate (producers of Edinburgh International Children’s Festival) and The Work Room often collaborate on opportunities for dance
